NYC Tour FAQs

Planning a New York City tour? Here are the most common questions about booking, timing, custom routes, museum tours (including the Met), and how to get the most out of your time in NYC with Jared.

Booking & scheduling

Jared’s tours are by appointment and built around your timing and interests. The fastest way to start is the Book Your Tour form. Tell us: your preferred date(s), how many people are in your group, and what you’re excited to explore (neighborhoods, history, art, food, architecture).

After you submit, Jared will follow up to shape the best route, pacing, and meeting plan for your group.

Private and custom NYC tours are scheduled based on mutual availability. In practice, that means we can tour whenever works for both of us— mornings, afternoons, or evenings—depending on your itinerary and what you want to see.

Jared offers private and group tours that can focus on neighborhoods, NYC history, architecture, parks, and museums. Many experiences are walking tours, and some can be arranged as bus or coach step‑on tours when that fits your itinerary.

If you want ideas, start on the Destinations page, then we’ll tailor it.

Jared carries tour‑guide insurance. As long as Jared is not paying for tickets, transportation, or making third‑party arrangements, the tour falls within standard tour‑guide coverage.

Tour format

Typical tours are about 3 hours. Some itineraries can be shorter, and special tours can be a full day—especially when combining neighborhoods with museums or multiple areas.

Yes. Jared can lead charter bus / coach tours. A working sound system is required, along with two contiguous seats next to the microphone. Larger groups should also have a Group Leader who knows the guests and helps keep everyone together.

Jared is licensed by New York City to lead charter bus tours, and he will need to work with a professional driver who speaks and understands English.

Yes. Jared is a professionally licensed NYC tour guide (licensed since 2008).

Kids & groups

Yes. Tours can be adjusted to keep kids and teens engaged. When booking, tell Jared the ages and interests so the route, pacing, and stops are built for your family.

Jared works with everything from a couple of people to larger groups (including school and tour‑operator groups). He can guide groups of up to 53 people at the same hourly rate. Group size matters for pacing and logistics, so include it in your request.

For larger groups, a step‑on format (bus/coach) may be a good fit—see Custom Tours.

Museums & tickets

Yes. The Metropolitan Museum Insider Tour is one of the most popular options on the site. Jared has worked at the Met, and the tour is designed to make a big museum feel approachable, memorable, and fun.

Often, yes—depending on timing and where you want to go. When you book, mention if you want a “museum + city” day (for example: the Met plus Central Park or Museum Mile).

Day-of logistics

Meeting points are chosen based on your itinerary and what’s easiest for your group. After booking, Jared will confirm a clear meeting location and time.

This is your custom, private New York City tour—not a forced march. Tell Jared in advance what accommodations you need so he can plan the most accessible experience possible.

During the tour, keep communicating about pace or needing to rest. Don’t be shy about what you need.

NYC is a walking city. Comfortable shoes are your best friend. Weather can change quickly, so layers are helpful. If you’re doing a museum tour, consider a small bag and comfortable indoor shoes as well.

Someone has to. Jared has long been fascinated by the NYC history and storytelling behind Santa and Christmas in New York. You can read more in the article in The Jewish Daily Forward.
